Bellator 67 Earns 165,000 Average Viewers on MTV2

After attracting just 109,000 viewers last week, Bellator Fighting Championships reeled in an average of 165,000 observers for last Friday’s Bellator 67 broadcast on MTV2.

The figure, which Sherdog.com confirmed with an industry source on Tuesday, represents a 51 percent upturn when compared to the Chicago-based promotion’s previous installment. Bellator 67 took place May 5 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, and featured a dominant performance from Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, who steamrolled veteran Akihiro Gono in just 56 seconds. The evening’s MTV2 broadcast also saw Bryan Baker advance to the Season 6 welterweight tournament finals, where he will meet the winner of Karl Amoussou’s May 18 semifinal clash with David Rickels.

Meanwhile, the UFC on Fox 3 prelims pulled just 86,000 average viewers the following night on Fuel TV, setting a new low for the promotion’s live event broadcasts on the Fox-owned cable station. The previous low had been set by the UFC on FX 2 prelims, which earned 113,000 viewers in March.

The downturn in viewership held true for the evening’s main draw as well. The four-fight lineup broadcast on Fox’s flagship network attracted 2.4 million viewers, whereas UFC on Fox 2 netted 4.7 million viewers for the main card and 144,000 viewers for the prelims back in January.

UFC on Fox 3 took place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., and was highlighted by Nate Diaz’s slick second-round submission of the highly-regarded Jim Miller in the evening’s lightweight main event. The Fuel TV broadcast showcased six fights in total, including two action-packed flyweight affairs pitting John Dodson against Tim Elliott and Louis Gaudinot against John Lineker. The telecast also saw Dennis Bermudez, Danny Castillo, John Hathaway and Michael Johnson earn victories, outpointing Pablo Garza, John Cholish, Pascal Krauss and Tony Ferguson, respectively.
