Jackson on Diaz Brothers: ‘They’re Sweet Guys’
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Diaz brothers, Nate and Nick, tend to
inspire strong reactions. Either you love them or you hate them,
with little room for middle ground. Trainer Greg Jackson, who has
had the opportunity to corner against both men in the past, has a
positive perception of the siblings.
“The Diaz brothers are incredibly tough; I actually like them,” he said. “A lot of people hate them. Before fights, they have to get themselves worked up and that’s their psychological tool to get in there and fight hard.”
Nate is part of the renowned trainer’s immediate future, as Jackson guides Donald Cerrone against “The Ultimate Fighter 5” winner at UFC 141 on Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Then, on Feb. 4, he will coach Carlos Condit against Nick for the interim welterweight title at UFC 143, also in Sin City.
Despite the Diazes sometimes combustible personalities, Jackson has no animosity toward either fighter.
“For me, they’re the nicest, most respectful kids around,” he said. “They’re sweet guys. It’s never a personal thing when we fight them. It’s always just business, and I respect the hell out of both of them.”
