Melendez: Shields Should Turn GSP Bout Into a Scrap

Gilbert
Melendez, on “The
Savage Dog Show,” discussing teammate Jake Shields,
who fights Georges
St. Pierre at UFC
129 on April 30:
“Get ready, world. Jake’s about to shock everybody. … Georges St. Pierre has won his last five fights and has won every single round. That means he’s controlled every fight and just kind of cruised. He cruises. I think Thiago [Alves] is the only one who gave him a little bit more of a battle, but even then, when things got ugly, he just got the takedown and got in control and never put himself in any danger. What Jake has to do, he needs to get this into a scrap. A chaotic fight, let’s just put it that way. It will be technical but a lot of chaos in there. He needs to make GSP fight him. GSP likes to paint pretty pictures. I don’t even know if he wants to call it a ‘fight.’ He probably wants to call it a ‘match.’ Jake needs to make it a dirty fight. I think that’s when Jake does his best.”
