10. Detached from Reality

Shigeyuki Uchiyama met Makaya Takita under the Pancrase Passion Tour 5 banner on June 5, 2010 at Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Horror resulted.

A little less than three minutes into the second round, Takita shot for a takedown that left both men entangled in the ropes. When they emerged from the scrum, Uchiyama was bleeding heavily from the side of his head and a sizeable piece of his right ear was resting on the canvas. The fight was called 2:57 into round two and was ruled a no-contest. It was yet another reminder that MMA was not for the faint of heart.

Uchiyama had the severed piece of his ear reattached and faced Takita in a rematch one year to the day after the incident, defeating him by majority decision.
