Chairez vs. da Silva

Flyweights

Edgar Chairez (10-5, 0-1 UFC) vs. Daniel da Silva (11-5, 0-4 UFC)

ODDS: Chairez (-355), da Silva (+280)

Da Silva has gone winless in his five UFC fights to date, but it is easy to see why the promotion has given him such a long leash, as he has provided an exciting experience every time out. Unfortunately, that is typically to the detriment of “Miojo”—a hot starter who has proven extremely sharp and dangerous early but has consistently tired himself out after a few minutes and left himself a sitting duck for a finish. Da Silva did at least look more patient in his September bout against Chairez. Still, it seemed set to end in another loss once Chairez clamped on a deep guillotine choke, only for the referee to call for a premature stoppage, ending the fight in a no contest. A rematch was booked for three weeks later, but once that was scuttled due to a medical issue on the da Silva side, the UFC pivoted to placing this fight on Chairez’s home turf of Mexico. As for Chairez, he looked set to put in some solid if unspectacular work in the UFC going forward. He is large for the division and quite durable, typically fighting with a slow-paced striking style while waiting for a grappling exchange. Simply surviving for three rounds in a late-notice debut against Tatsuro Taira was a good look for Chairez, and he figures to hang around here until da Silva once again dives into danger. The pick is Chairez via second-round submission.
