BETUS ODDS: Green (-135), Lainesse (+105)

Perhaps Green can find his way to a more active schedule, since he has the potential to make a name for himself as one of the most reliably exciting fighters on the roster. Green’s style works better than it should on paper. An undersized welterweight and an awkward striker, “Gifted Gabriel” is able to make headway through sheer attrition, pressuring and outpacing his opponents while wading through their offense. That led him to a fun scrap in a late-notice debut against Daniel Rodriguez in 2020 and earned him his first UFC win against Philip Rowe in his most recent bout in February 2021. Green finally makes his return against Montreal’s Lainesse, who steps into the cage for his first UFC fight after earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in November. The “White Lion” has some impressive horsepower for the welterweight division, but he does tend towards the slower and more plodding side of things. However, that has not mattered in Lainesse’s career thus far, particularly since he usually finds a way to score a knockout. It took him just 97 seconds to finish the much more highly touted Justin Burlinson to earn his UFC contract. Given that Lainesse also tends to tire over time, this seems like a fight where Green can outpace and outwork the UFC newcomer and earn a clear decision, though the knockout will always be a concern—particularly since some knockout losses early in his career suggest Green’s chin is not entirely unbreakable. Still, the pick is Green via entertaining decision.
