Brigagao vs. Pogues

Marcos Brigagao vs. Jamal Pogues

Brigagao is a perfect 11-0 with 11 stoppages. The undefeated fighter remains a huge mystery, as there is very little footage available of his prior fights. The Brazilian is a hyper-aggressive southpaw. The 23-year-old does not keep his distance at all, preferring to charge forward, almost running at his opponents at times. “Ironside” packs big power in his punches, with his overhand left and body kicks serving as his most deadly finishing moves. The Parana Vale Tudo representative gets his takedowns from the clinch, including lateral throws. He has displayed great top control and has three submissions on his resume.

Pogues has a 6-2 record and is coming off back-to-back wins. One of his losses came to rising Bellator prospect Jordan Young via third-round submission -- a fight in which Pogues appeared to be on his way to an upset victory before being caught in an armbar. Pogues trains under “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 2 winner Joe Stevenson. “The Stormtrooper” is a fairly unathletic, slow, lumbering fighter who possess some decent power in his punches but prefers to grapple. He does well at avoiding standing strikes by bouncing his head off the centerline. He likes to throw a flurry of strikes at his opponents to force them to raise their hands to protect their face, affording him the opportunity to shoot on their hips. The 23-year-old is not a powerful wrestler, but he is relentless in his pursuit of the takedown. Once he gets on top, Pogues looks to control instead of landing punishment or find the submission.

Despite Pogues’ strong showing against Young, Brigagao appears to be the more well-rounded fighter. Expect him to stuff a few takedown attempts, land the more damaging shots on the feet and secure a unanimous decision but miss out on a UFC contract.
