Preview: UFC Fight Night 183 Prelims

Nchukwi vs. Pickett

Middleweights

NR | Tafon Nchukwi (4-0, 0-0 UFC) vs. NR | Jamie Pickett (11-4, 0-0 UFC)

ODDS: Nchukwi (-290), Pickett (+245)

Much like Dalcha Lungiambula, it will be fascinating to see how Nchukwi cuts enough weight to make his 185-pound debut, given that he is an absolute tank and has spent his career at heavyweight and light heavyweight. Nchukwi is still obviously raw, but he has shown a ton of potential thus far in his career on the back of a slow but devastating power kickboxing game. It may take a while for Nchukwi to find a big shot, but his opponents go down hard at the first instance of major impact. He will be a tough first test for a fellow UFC newcomer and Dana White’s Contender Series alum in Pickett, who finally earned a contract on his third chance in front of UFC President Dana White. Pickett can do a little bit of everything but usually needs an athletic advantage to get everything fully clicking, which is an issue in this matchup. Pickett pulling off the upset is not entirely out of the question, as doubts about Nchukwi’s weight cut and speed at 185 pounds remain. However, the power that Nchukwi brings to the table makes an upset an extremely difficult proposition. The pick is Ncukwi via first-round knockout.
