Sherdog’s Top 10: Mismatches

No. 4

4. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Yuji Nagata
Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2003
Dec. 31, 2003 | Kobe, Japan

Two years earlier, Nagata had taken on Mirko Filipovic and gotten punched out in 21 seconds. The New Japan Pro Wrestling legend fared no better against a prime Emelianenko, though he did manage to last more than a minute at Kobe Wing Stadium.

Still, Nagata stood no chance. A few punches from “The Last Emperor” rocked the Japanese wrestler and left him open for the finish. Emelianenko put him away in 62 seconds, as the mixed martial arts world gave a collective roll of the eyes to the Inoki Genome Federation’s New Year’s Eve matchmaking. Nagata never fought again, his MMA career covering a grand total of 83 seconds.
