By The Numbers: One Championship in 2022

One Championship has put another successful campaign behind it in Southeast Asia. What started with ONE “Heavy Hitters” on Jan. 14 concluded 323 days later with ONE 164 on Dec. 3, as the Chatri Sityodtong-fronted company continued to expand its global footprint. One Championship now takes a brief hiatus before tuning up the band for 2023, which offers the promise of its own twists and turns, jaw-dropping knockouts, breathtaking submissions and unexpected power shifts.

With ONE on Prime Video 6 looming in the not-too-distant future, a look at some of the numbers the Singapore-based operation generated in 2022:

20: Events staged by One Championship in 2022, excluding its Road to ONE series. All told, the schedule featured nine numbered shows, six named cards and five ONE on Prime Videos.

121: Mixed martial arts fights promoted by ONE over the past 12 months. A total of 44 of them concluded without a true finish: 28 unanimous decisions, 12 split decisions and four no contests.

48: One Championship bouts ended by knockout or technical knockout in the last year, accounting for 62% of the finishes within the organization.

18: Seconds needed for Sung Hoon Woo to put away Yodkaikaew Fairtex with punches at ONE “Bad Blood” on Feb. 11. It was the fastest finish via KO/TKO under the One Championship flag in 2022.

29: One Championship bouts ended by submission in the last year, accounting for 38% of the finishes within the organization.

64: Seconds needed for two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Marcus Almeida to dispatch Kirill Grishenko with a heel hook at ONE on Prime Video 1 on Aug. 26. It was the fastest finish via submission under the One Championship banner in 2022.

1,331: Days covered by Joshua Pacio’s second reign as ONE strawweight champion. He reclaimed the 125-pound crown with a head kick knockout of archrival Yosuke Saruta on April 12, 2019, made three successful title defenses and then surrendered it in a unanimous decision defeat to Jarred Brooks in the ONE 164 headliner on Dec. 3.

2: Wins by Christian Lee in 2022, extending his all-time One Championship record to 17. Lee recaptured the lightweight championship when he buried Rae Yoon Ok with knees in the second round of their One 160 rematch on Aug. 26, then seized the welterweight title when he cut down Kiamrian Abbasov with elbows and punches in the fourth round of their ONE on Prime Video 4 main event on Nov. 18.

50: Minutes completed by Jingnan Xiong, as she retained the women’s strawweight championship on two different occasions in 2022. The 34-year-old Chinese star outpointed Ayaka Miura to a five-round unanimous verdict at ONE “Heavy Hitters” on Jan. 14 and took a five-round unanimous decision from Angela Lee at ONE on Prime Video 2 on Sept. 30.

3: Countries in which One Championship promoted events over the past 12 months. The company operated in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, slowly but surely emerging from its COVID-19 bubble.
