Bellator 170 Weigh-ins: Tito Ortiz, Chael Sonnen Pass Final Hurdle Before Grudge Match

The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California, has seen its fair share of epic battles. Magic Johnson and the Showtime Lakers went to proverbial war with the hated Boston Celtics and many a prizefight in the golden are of Southern California boxing unfolded in the venue. On Saturday night, somewhat local promotion Bellator MMA will put on arguably its biggest event ever inside those very walls.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz will make his final climb through a mixed martial arts cage when he locks horns with Chael Sonnen on Saturday. The two have waged a verbal war in the weeks leading up to their encounter and things nearly came to a head at Thursday’s final pre-fight press conference. Finally, after all the bluster, bravado and berating, the two cleared the final hurdle on Friday as they both came in on weight.

Sonnen was the first to climb aboard the scale and “The American Gangster” easily made the light heavyweight limit. The former UFC middleweight title challenger came in officially at 205.8 pounds and never took his eyes of Ortiz. For the final time in his MMA career, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” calmly walked to the scale and nailed it; he weighed in at 204.8 pounds.

Bellator 170 will be televised live on Spike beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m., which directly follows the prelims on Sherdog.com.
