Greg Rebello let his hands do the talking.
The Team Sityodtong export cut down Derrick Brown with first-round punches in the CES MMA 47 headliner on Friday at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Brown (5-4) succumbed to blows 82 seconds into Round 1 and immediately protested referee John English’s decision to intervene.
The two heavyweights circled and pawed at one another until Rebello (23-8) decided to forgo any further posturing. The 35-year-old Bellator MMA veteran froze Brown with an overhand left, pushed him toward the fence and floored him with another left upstairs. Rebello then pounced with punches until English had seen enough.
Rebello has won seven of his past nine bouts.
Meanwhile, New England Combat representative Nate Andrews submitted King of the Cage alum Tyler Combs with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their catchweight co-main event at 160 pounds. Combs (14-14-1) conceded defeat 2:25 into Round 1.
Andrews (12-1) worked behind leg and body kicks before delivering a takedown from the clinch, settling in side control and cutting loose with punches and elbows. He made a smooth transition to Combs’ back, secured position with hooks and cinched the choke for the finish.
The 33-year-old Andrews has rattled off six consecutive victories.
Elsewhere, BST MMA and Fitness prospect Richie Santiago kept his perfect professional record intact, as he submitted Tashawn Mack with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their bantamweight showcase. Mack (6-2) bowed out 3:05 into Round 1.
Santiago (6-0) executed a takedown inside the first 10 seconds, operated between half guard and full guard, applied his ground-and-pound and freed himself from an attempted triangle choke. He then passed to side control and ultimately climbed to full mount. Faced with the possibility of being bludgeoned with elbows and punches, Mack surrendered his back. Santiago immediately went to work on the choke, prompting the tapout soon after.
In other action, John Douma put away Mark Trader with punches 2:02 into the first round of their featherweight confrontation; David Garcia submitted Kris Moutinho with a guillotine choke 3:07 into the first round of their bantamweight pairing; Jose Lugo tapped Michael Taylor with a rear-naked choke 3:33 into the first round of their catchweight tilt at 130 pounds; Tyler Hamilton submitted Montoyia Swilling with a brabo choke 46 seconds into the first round of their welterweight affair; and Yorgan De Castro disposed of James Dysard with punches 39 seconds into first round of their heavyweight confrontation.
