Arguably the biggest active star in all of boxing, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez made it look embarrassingly easy against Rocky Fielding on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In the first fight of his massive five-year, 11-fight $365 million deal with DAZN, Alvarez smoked Fielding within three rounds. The Guadalajara native dropped Fielding with a left hook to the body in the first and did the same thing in the second. Already woefully behind on points and dropped twice, Fielding (27-2, 15 KOs) needed a miracle, one that never came.

Alvarez (50-1-2) charged at the much taller Brit early in the third with a flurry of punches. “Canelo” dropped him twice more, finally finishing him off with another left to the guts. The ref finally stopped the mugging at 2:38 of the frame, giving Alvarez his 34th career knockout.

The win allowed Alvarez, the reigning WBA and WBC middleweight champion to wrest the WBA super middleweight crown from Fielding. The accomplishment also vaulted Alvarez into Mexican boxing royalty; he joined Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez as the only fighters from that boxing-rich country to win world titles in at least three different weight classes.
