Enrique Barzola Announces Move to Bantamweight After UFC Uruguay Win

Enrique Barzola has enjoyed a successful UFC stint thus far, winning seven of his nine Octagon appearances. Nonetheless, “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2” winner believes it’s time to make a change.

The 30-year-old Lima, Peru, native announced plans to drop to bantamweight following a hard-fought split verdict over Bobby Moffett at UFC Uruguay on Saturday. “El Fuerte” did a solid job blending in takedowns with punches, which was enough to earn the nod from two cageside judges.

“I felt a more experienced fighter after this fight. My opponent changed his strategy, the fight got different, and as a fighter, it was tough.

After winning “TUF: Latin America” at lightweight, Barzola’s next eight UFC bouts have been contested at featherweight. Barzola is confident that the cut to 135 pounds will not be an issue.

My coach always tells me that I should not stop training, and I know that I can drop to bantamweight. It is easy for me to cut to 145 pounds, and I think I will fight at 135 in my next fight. I will work on good plan with my team, and we will star to focus on that.”
