Khabib Nurmagomedov is still waiting to learn his fate for his role in inciting an all-out brawl after submitting Conor McGregor at UFC 229 on Oct. 6, but for the moment he retains both the belt and a dry sense of humor.
After the undefeated lightweight finished McGregor, he jumped into the crowd to attack the Irishman’s teammate, Bellator MMA fighter Dillon Danis, who was antagonizing the champion. A huge melee erupted outside the cage with punches being thrown from all directions. A moment later, several men from Nurmagomedov’s corner entered the Octagon to confront McGregor.
Once everything had calmed down, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White refused to present the belt to Nurmagomedov, informing him that if he did put the belt around him he risked inciting the crowd further and getting things thrown at them. The undefeated champion was then quickly ushered out of the arena to the deafening boos of the Irish fans.
There had been rumors floating that Nurmogomedov might be stripped of the title after the wild brawl that ensued but that was laid to rest. Khabib was finally handed the belt and decided to troll his boss by posting a photo of himself on Instagram -- apparently taken later that same night -- sitting on White’s BMW. In the photo, Nurmagomedov is holding his belt and has placed his trademark papakha hat, tagged as "Dana White," on the hood of the car next to him.
“@danawhite you lucky that you give my belt, or I would smash your car, I know your parking location”
