Saad Awad will face Ryan Couture in a 160-pound catchweight affair in the Bellator 201 co-main event.
A promotion official confirmed the pairing with Sherdog.com on Monday following an initial report from MMAjunkie.com. Bellator 201 takes place on June 29 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif., and is headlined by a women’s flyweight championship clash between Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Alejandra Lara.
Awad, a 16-time Bellator veteran, has been victorious in his last three appearances with the California-based promotion. Most recently, the 34-year-old Millennia MMA representative outpointed J.J. Ambrose at Bellator 193 on Jan. 26.
A former UFC and Strikeforce competitor, Couture halted a two-fight skid with a three-round verdict over Haim Gozali at Bellator 180 this past June in his lone appearance of 2017. Prior to that, the 35-year-old Las Vegas resident had been finished in back-to-back bouts by Goiti Yamauchi and Patricky Freire.
Three preliminary bouts have also recently been confirmed for the event: Jordan Young vs. Jamal Pogues at light heavyweight; Lance Lee vs. Ricky Furar at a 140-pound catchweight; and Jacob Rosales vs. Joshua Jones at lightweight.
