Welterweight Title Bout Headlines Sportfight 27

Chris Ryan/Sherdog.com

Sportfight welterweight champion Nathan Coy will defend his crown against Travis Bush in the Sportfight 27 “Wild Card” main event on Friday at the Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, Ore. The event will feature four other professional matchups.

Based out of Team Quest, Coy has finished back-to-back opponents inside one round. The 31-year-old wrestled collegiately at Oregon State University, where he was a two-time Pac-10 Conference champion and an All-American. He last appeared in December, when he needed just three minutes to submit International Fight League veteran Chris Albandia with an arm-triangle choke at an event in Bahrain. Coy’s list of victims also includes UFC veterans Mike Pierce and Rick Story.

Unbeaten (3-0-1) in his last four fights, Bush has not competed since September, when he stopped Landon Showalter in the third round at a Conquest of the Cage show in Spokane, Wash. He delivered his most notable victory in 2007, when he defeated Enoch Wilson by unanimous decision at Sportfight 19. Bush has not competed inside the promotion since.

Other matchups on the Sportfight 27 menu include a middleweight tilt pairing Casey Manrique with Tyson Jeffries, a heavyweight bout pitting Will Walden against Nick Braker and a featherweight fight between Kevin Rhoades and Roy Bradshaw.
