Lyman Good is Fighting for Family

(PRESS RELEASE) -- “It’s not even for me. I’m doing it for my family.”

Undefeated Bellator Welterweight phenom, Lyman Good is fighting for more than just a shot at the World Championship title this Friday and a $50,000 Semi-Final winners purse, May 15 at Bellator VII at the Aragon Entertainment Center in Chicago. Instead he is fighting to provide a better life for his family.

When asked what a semi-final tournament win over Jorge Ortiz meant to him Lyman replied:

“To me it means freedom for my family. To get the hell out of the neighborhood we’re in right now. That’s actually what the money’s for. It’s not even for me. I’m doing it for them because I want to get them the hell out of there. Start basically a new life; that’s what the money’s for.”

It is this type of earnest respect and discipline that is often associated with Lyman, who also serves as an instructor to martial arts students at Tiger Schulmann’s training center. Lyman will face Jorge “the Naked Man” Ortiz in the Semi-Final’s of Bellator’s Welterweight World Championship at the Aragon Entertainment Center in Chicago, IL. The winner of the bout will advance to Bellator’s Welterweight title bout and compete for $100,000 when Bellator returns to the Mohegan Sun on June 12th for Bellator XI.

Lyman has been devoted to a highly tuned training regimen in preparation for his semi-final bout. He has kept to a strict protein rich diet of lean meats, fish and vegetables and has cut any food that contains unnecessary fat. Along with this strict diet Lyman performs a three-hour training session in the morning consisting of an hour of boxing, an hour of grappling/Jiu-Jitsu and an hour of conditioning. He also takes in an additional two hours of training each evening except of Saturdays.

When asked what fans can expect when he steps back into the cage to face Ortiz this Friday, Lyman said:

“What [fans] saw in my first fight, they can anticipate the same, if not more. I’m ready to go out there and give 110 percent regardless of what the outcome might be. Win or lose, expect that I’m going to throw my heart out there. I’m not going to look back.”

The event will take place live at the Aragon Entertainment Center on May 15 and will air exclusively on ESPN Deportes May 16.

Lyman concluded his interview with one final sentiment about fighting for Bellator:

“With Bellator, we decide everything for ourselves. If we put in the effort, it definitely doesn’t go by unnoticed. Where we end up and how far we go. It’s in our hands.”
