Eduard Folayang Sees a Serious Test in Short-Notice Replacement Pieter Buist

Jan 29, 2020

At One ChampionshipFire & Fury,” inside The Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, the Philippines’ own Eduard Folayang returns to action. He will do so against Dutch muay Thai specialist Pieter Buist, a short-notice replacement who may turn out to be a more difficult test for the former lightweight champion than original opponent Ahmed Mujtaba.

“Yea, of course,” Folayang told Sherdog when asked if his new opponent is a more difficult test. “Buist has a height advantage. He’s a smart striker, and he has a good record. The time for me to adjust is short, but I think we have the same strengths in striking. And it will be a good test for the both of us.”

Along with talking about his fight on Friday, and his six-inch taller foe, Folayang also spoke about his big summer clash with former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Eddie Alvarez. He touches on his regrets from that fight, and his hopes the pair meet up again. “Landslide” also spoke about being a leader at gym Team Lakay and being an example as him and four other teammates compete on this upcoming card. The Filipino also talked about the world news event of the Taal volcano in his home country, as well as the passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant.
