The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday went into One Championship territory and put on an event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. UFC Fight Night 162 featured a master submission artist giving a masterpiece performance, the latest submission in UFC heavyweight history and an unusual distinction for a female fighter.

DON’T WRITE HIM OFF YET: After picking up his 22nd win inside the Octagon, Demian Maia is now one victory shy of tying Donald Cerrone (23) for the most all-time.

DILIGENT DEMIAN: The headliner against Ben Askren was Maia’s 31st appearance under the UFC banner. This is good for the fourth-most behind Cerrone (33), Jim Miller (33) and Jeremy Stephens (32).

ADCCUFC: With the submission win, Maia now is in sole possession of the second-most submissions in company history, trailing only Charles Oliveira (13).

PUT SOME CLOTHES ON ALREADY: By putting Askren out with a rear-naked choke, Maia now holds sole possession of the most rear-naked choke finishes in company history with eight. He breaks the record set by Kenny Florian (seven). Also of note, his infamous tapout of Rick Story is considered a neck crank.

DO FIGHTERS DREAM OF OCTAGONAL SHEEP?: As he rendered Askren unconscious with his choke, Maia is now one of nine fighters to ever put multiple opponents to sleep with submission maneuvers. Maia previously choked out Ed Herman with a triangle at UFC 83 in 2008.

HARDLY A TECHNICALITY: In his UFC debut, Askren scored a technical submission over Robbie Lawler. Against Maia, Askren dropped his bout by technical submission. He is the eighth fighter to win and lose a fight by technical submission in UFC history.

GO OUT WITH A SNORE: Eight UFC main events have now featured technical submissions. The last came when Georges St. Pierre put Michael Bisping to sleep with a rear-naked choke at UFC 217 in 2017.

FIVE MINUTES OR MORE: Prior to his bout with Maia, Askren was 10-0 when he fought beyond the first round.

GANE’S GOT GAME: With 14 seconds left in the fight, Ciryl Gane finished Don'Tale Mayes with a heel hook. This is the latest submission in UFC heavyweight history. When Randy Couture tapped out against Ricco Rodriguez at UFC 39 in 2002 during the fifth round, it was due to an elbow strike.

AND PALHARES HAS FIVE: Seven of the 18 heel hooks inside the organization have taken place at heavyweight -- or openweight, before weight classes were designated -- in promotional history, more than any other division. However, Gane’s submission was the first of its type at heavyweight since Mike Ciesnolevicz hit Neil Grove with one at UFC 95 in 2009.

CIRYL CRUSHES: With his late victory, Gane remains undefeated at 5-0. He has finished all five of his opponents before the final bell.

KUNG FU FIGHTING FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES: Needing all three rounds to defeat Laureano Staropoli, Muslim Salikhov went the distance for the second time in his 18-fight career. The last time “The King of Kung Fu” required more than two rounds to beat an opponent came in 2013, when he captured a decision over Deyan Topalski at M-1 Challenge 38.

THAT RECORD IS A STORM: After taking a decision over Ashley Yoder, Randa Markos has now gone 15 bouts without stringing together consecutive wins or losses. “Quiet Storm” started her career with three straight wins and has alternated victories, defeats and one draw since 2013.

ATAMAN VS. THE JUDGES: Rafael Fiziev needed 15 minutes to beat Alex White, and in doing so, “Ataman” went the distance for the first time in his brief eight-fight career.

MOVSARRING UP THE RANKS: Movsar Evloev improved his unbeaten record to 12-0 with a decision win over Enrique Barzola. Evloev now celebrates three victories by knockout, four by tapout and five on the scorecards.

SURGICAL SERGEI: After Sergei Pavlovich flattened Maurice Greene with punches in the opening round, 11 of the Russian’s 14 wins have come by knockout. All 11 have taken place in Round 1.

MUAY THAI NEVER DIE: By taking a split decision over Aleksandra Albu, Konklak Suphisara -- the fighter known as “Loma Lookboonmee” -- became the first Thai to ever compete and win inside the Octagon.

NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN: Coming into UFC Fight Night 162, Askren (21 fights) and Mayes (nine fights) had never been submitted, Gane (four fights) and Fiziev (seven fights) had never competed beyond the second round and Greene (10 fights) had never been finished.

THE LAST KNOWN SURVIVOR: Frank Camacho walked out to the ever-popular “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor and lost by first round submission to Beneil Dariush. With the loss, the track now accompanies more losses (21) than any other in recorded UFC history.

’CAUSE IT’S NEVER ENOUGH: For the second time in her UFC career, Markos walked out to the “Quiet Storm” remix by Mobb Deep featuring Lil’ Kim. On both occasions that she has used the song, she has come out victorious.
