The Ultimate Fighting Championship put on one last card before going for broke at UFC 300 next week. The middling Apex show promised violence during the main event, and it delivered exactly that. UFC Fight Night ended uniquely as far as scorecards are concerned while featuring a kid that can kick any way he pleases and a bit of the ol’ Jailhouse Rock.

Tossup Kinda Night: The evening ended with three straight split decisions. It is the first time a UFC card has concluded with this trio of results while serving as the first three-split stretch since UFC Fight Night 121 in 2017.

A Grinding Evening: After the 12th match, fighters overall had secured 45 takedowns throughout the evening. This total serves as the ninth-highest of any event in promotional history, while the top number remains at 59 from UFC Fight Night 221 in 2023.

All the Takedowns: Brendan Allen picked up the split decision to avenge a past loss over Chris Curtis. In 25 minutes, “All In” landed six takedowns, or twice as many as Curtis’ last nine foes combined.

All the Strikes: Allen landed 112 significant strikes across his 25-minute encounter with Curtis. This is the first time he has eclipsed the century mark while exceeding his previous high of 94 from facing Punahele Soriano in 2021.

Sweet Hair, Bro: For the fourth time in his 31-fight career, Damon Jackson needed all 15 minutes to win. “Action” Jackson saw his finish rate drop to 83% after edging Anthony Hernandez on the scorecards.

Defying All Expectations: Getting the nod from two of three judges, Jose Mariscal skirted by Morgan Charriere as they both earned an extra $50k for their handiwork. The current six-fight win streak for “Chepe” is double that of his previous record-long winning streaks in his career.

Legs for Days: By landing a head kick on Christos Giagos, Ignacio Bahamondes became one of seven fighters in UFC history to pull off spinning kick and head kick knockouts. He joins a class that includes Vitor Belfort, Daron Cruickshank, Stephen Thompson, Thiago Santos, Joaquin Buckley and Natalia Silva.

May Have Peeked: Charlie Campbell outlasted Trevor Peek to win the decision. Peek started his career with nine fights, all concluding inside the distance, and his last three each heard the final bell.

Moral Victory Come Contract Season: Picking up the decision win for his first in the Octagon, Lukasz Brzeski upset favorite Valter Walker. Brzeski had only once before needed the full three rounds to get the nod, with that win coming in 2019.

She Did It: Norma Dumont put herself on a career-long four-fight win streak, by making weight at bantamweight and beating Germaine de Randamie at the hands of the judges. The Brazilian has gone to a decision in eight consecutive outings, win or lose.

Falcao Punched: After beating Pedro Falcao via decision, Victor Hugo Silva advanced to maintain a 14-fight win streak. Nine of those victories came inside the distance for “Striker.”

Is Heaven Any Sweeter than Blue Jean: Keeping his zero intact, Jean Matsumoto advanced to 15-0 by tapping Dan Argueta with a guillotine choke. In Matsumoto’s last six fights, he has landed three guillotines and won unanimous decisions in the others.

Ancient Prospect: Lifting his early pro record to 5-0, the 36-year-old Cesar Almeida put Dylan Budka away with strikes in the second round. Four of those five wins have come by knockout within two rounds.

Cornolled: Notching the biggest betting upset of the evening, +300 Nora Cornolle battered Melissa Mullins (-400) with a knee to the body and head kicks to procure the stoppage. The Frenchwoman has earned seven of her eight pro wins via stoppage.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into UFC Fight Night 240, Walker (11 fights) and Mullins (six fights) had never been defeated, Argueta had never been finished (12 fights) and Budka had never been knocked out (nine fights). Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run Away: Argueta became the second fighter in organizational history to choose a Talking Heads track as his entrance music. Like Cristiano Marcello before him in 2013, Argueta went with “Psycho Killer,” and he also lost.

Everybody, Let’s Rock: Budka walked out to the first Elvis Presley song since Argueta picked one last year when he selected “Jailhouse Rock.” Elvis remains a historically unsuccessful walkout artist for fighters, who sport a win percentage of .273 after using his music.
