The Walkmen: UFC Fight Night ‘Arlovski vs. Barnett’

After a rather uneventful few hours of fights inside the Octagon, the main-card combatants turned up the heat and closed out UFC Fight Night “Arlovski vs. Barnett” in style on Saturday at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholders Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski left it all in the cage in a terrific back-and-forth battle, but “The Warmaster” had his hand raised in victory.

While many of the preliminary fights lacked pure action and imagination, the songs the fighters chose for their entrance music did not. Whether it was themes from popular movies and TV shows or traditional classics that have been used countless times before, the walkout songs of UFC Fight Night 93 were memorable.

Barnett was aided by his trademark battle song from his favorite band: Bolt Thrower. The legendary English death metal outfit’s classic track “The IVth Crusade” reverberated throughout the arena, and it helped the Pride Fighting Championships veteran survive some bombs from Arlovski and eventually choke out “The Pit Bull” in the third round. Arlovski went with Eminem’s “Soldier” prior to being submitted for the first time in his long and storied career.

Meanwhile, Ryan Bader registered the only pure knockout of the event when he flattened Ilir Latifi with a perfectly timed knee to the face in the second round of their light heavyweight showcase. “The Ultimate Fighter 8” winner clearly had some assistance from The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black” on the way to the Octagon, and it helped him not only win but pocket a $50,000 post-fight performance bonus.

Other standout tracks included Ennio Moricone’s “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” (Tae Hyun Bang), Blue Oyster Cult’s overlooked “Godzilla” (Christian Colombo), AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” (Nick Hein) and Inner Circle’s “Bad Boys” (Peter Sobotta) -- the song made famous by the long-running hit TV show C.O.P.S.
