Ashley Greenway vs. Sarah Click

Round 1

Greenway switches from southpaw to orthodox as she inches forward on Click, who bounces on her toes and swings heavy right hooks to keep her opponent out of range. Click flashes a high kick, lands a jab behind it and then an inside leg kick. Still very measured, cautious striking from both women as they hit the midway point of round one. Greenway lands an inside leg kick, tries to walk in behind it and gets swept out of the pocket with a right hand. Click pushes Greenway backward, then waits for her to bounce off the fence and sends a pair of punches down the center. Another right hand gets the attention of Greenway in the final minute, and a clean left hook reddens her face in the closing seconds of the round. 10-9 Click.

Round 2

Greenway finds some success with leg kicks as the second frame begins, but her punches are still being picked off by Click’s harder, more accurate counters. Click is stalking now, marching forward on Greenway with her right hand cocked. Greenway continues to land leg kicks as she backpedals, though her spinning backfist attempts are repeatedly met by hard counters from Click. Still on the march, Click walks down Greenway near the fence and zaps her with a pair of hard jabs. Greenway is on her bike, constantly backpedaling to escape the pressure. Greenway grazes with a spinning punch or elbow in the final 20 seconds, only to be tagged back with punches as she tries to push Click against the cage. 10-9 Click.

Round 3

Greenway took a decision from Click.
Click picks up where she left off, walking forward on Greenway with little concern and her right hand loaded up to strike. Greenway is starting to find the mark with jabs off her back foot, and now she changes levels to take Click to the ground for the first time about 90 seconds into the round. Greenway jumps on Click’s back in the scramble and tries to lock up a body triangle. Click looks to be escaping out the backdoor, so Greenway transitions to a triangle choke attempt. They wind up in an awkward position, with Greenway on her left side, holding Click in a loose triangle. Click has her head on the mat and one knee on the ground, trying to stack up and escape from the hold which has trapped her head and left arm. Meanwhile, Greenway is connecting with punches and elbows to Click’s exposed face. With 30 seconds remaining and no tap in sight, Greenway transitions to an armbar, but Click rips her limb free. Greenway grabs for the arm again but runs out of time, and this one will be decided by the judges. 10-8 Greenway (28-28 Draw).

The Official Result

Ashley Greenway def. Sarah Click via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00

Kelly McGill vs. Aspen Ladd

Round 1

Ladd moves quickly across the cage and digs an underhook to pin the larger McGill against the fence. A few knees land inside for Ladd before McGill turns her around, and now the fighters jockey for position in the clinch. Ladd gets the upper hand and drags McGill to the mat with a bodylock takedown. Ladd takes the back of McGill in short order but only establishes one hook at first, allowing McGill some space to try an escape. Ladd stays after it and eventually gets the second hook in, though her right arm is being trapped by McGill underneath. McGill rolls belly down and Ladd is back to one hook with just over two minutes on the clock. Ladd switches to throwing knees at McGill’s body while trying to free her trapped arm, but McGill refuses to let go. Inside the final minute, Ladd gets aggressive in her pursuit of a rear-naked choke. When she can’t get McGill’s throat, Ladd postures up on her opponent’s back and unloads with punches while McGill kneels. Ladd is still in complete control as the round ends but can’t find a finish before the bell. 10-8 Ladd.

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Ladd put McGill away late.
Straight back to the clinch goes Ladd, burying the top of her head underneath McGill’s chin to make things uncomfortable on the inside. Ladd struggles to drag McGill back to the ground, but after a call for action from referee Mark Smith, Ladd gives it a second effort and drags her down. McGill once again traps Ladd’s right arm as she kneels, so Ladd postures up from the side and begins unloading with left hands to McGill’s face. McGill is just using the arm to survive underneath, doing nothing but trying to prevent Ladd from attacking. Ladd finally gets the limb free with two minutes on the clock and stands over McGill to try and reposition herself. McGill uses her long legs to kick away the smaller woman, but Ladd never gets backed up far enough for McGill to jump back to her feet. With 80 seconds left, Ladd comes back down to the canvas, but McGill’s shifty guard soon makes her stand again. Referee Smith orders the fighters back to their feet with 50 seconds on the clock; 20 seconds later, Ladd has McGill back on the ground and is dropping punches from side control. Ladd ends the round by straddling McGill’s head and framing up a kimura. 10-8 Ladd.

Round 3

Within 10 seconds of the round opening, Ladd has trapped McGill against the fence with an underhook. Within 60 seconds, McGill is once again on her back, trying to isolate one of Ladd’s arms to stay alive on the bottom. This time, Ladd doesn’t give up the arm easily and instead is able to advance deep into McGill’s half guard. Ladd goes to knee-on-belly position and postures up to land her best ground-and-pound of the fight so far, bashing McGill with heavy elbows and hammerfists. McGill rolls to her side and covers up, and referee Smith has seen enough. Late replacement Aspen Ladd steps in and gets a dominant stoppage victory in the third round.

The Official Result

Aspen Ladd def. Kelly McGill via TKO (Elbows and Punches) R3 1:47

Sarah D'Alelio vs. Andrea Lee

Round 1

Lee scores first with an inside leg kick and a right hand over the top which pushes D’Alelio backward. “The Monster” comes back with a hard, short hook in the next exchange, then tries to hold Lee against the fence, without success. Lee swings and misses with a big right hand but dings the body of D’Alelio with a knee on her way out of the pocket. Lee getting busy with push and leg kicks, now two minutes into the round. D’Alelio is already wearing some redness on her nose and face from Lee’s snappy punches. Lee swings a big left hand as she lunges forward; it bounces off D’Alelio’s glove, but the follow-through right hand from Lee finds its mark on the face. Good movement from Lee as she steps off a wide overhand from D’Alelio and comes back to counter. Lee mixing it up now, going body-head and sprinkling in leg kicks. A heavy pair of hooks pushes D’Alelio backward to the fence, where Lee grabs her in the Thai plum and sends two or three good knees upstairs. Lee closes out the round with one last left hook. 10-9 Lee.

Round 2

D’Alelio pushes forward on “KGB” in the opening minute of the second frame, eating some more jabs and absorbing leg kicks in order to get inside. Once she finally gets hold of Lee, D’Alelio is unable to corral her, and Lee circles away to continue her striking. D’Alelio keeps coming and catches Lee near the wall again, this time wrapping her up around the body and dragging her to the canvas. Lee throws short punches and elbows off her back while D’Alelio goes heavy in deep half guard, considering her next move. D’Alelio tries to wrap up Lee’s head but can’t get a choke cinched up before the Louisiana native spins to her knees and escapes. Back up they come, D’Alelio still holding Lee’s head in a loose headlock which is soon broken up. Back in the center of the cage, Lee dives for D’Alelio’s ankles in an awkward failed takedown attempt. D’Alelio easily stuffs the shot and nearly takes her opponent’s back before Lee is able to power back to her feet. The flyweights stay tangled as they stand, and now it’s Lee hurling D’Alelio to the ground. D’Alelio throws up a triangle in the waning seconds of the round but can’t make anything materialize before time runs out. 10-9 D’Alelio.

Round 3

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

D’Alelio choked Lee into submission.
Lee puts a kick on the inside of D’Alelio’s lead leg and snaps off a jab down the center. D’Alelio touches Lee’s face with a jab but gets backed up with a switch kick to the body. A brief Thai clinch allows Lee to score with a pair of knees up the middle before pushing D’Alelio to the fence. They fight back to the center where D’Alelio pushes Lee away, but “The Monster” may be fading here as Lee is able to corral her again within seconds. More punches from Lee open a cut on the bridge of D’Alelio’s swollen nose. D’Alelio wraps up Lee for a takedown near the halfway point of the round, but within 30 seconds, Lee has kicked her away and scrambled back to her feet. Lee hits a huge head-and-arm throw to put D’Alelio on her back, drops some elbows on the Strikeforce vet but can’t keep her underneath. D’Alelio sits up and drives forward on Lee’s legs, sweeping to top position and then straddling Lee’s head to hunt for a kimura. Lee keeps the arm safe but now surrenders her back, allowing D’Alelio to jump on and flatten her out, belly down. D’Alelio wraps her right arm around Lee’s neck and squeezes tight; Lee resists for a moment but soon has to tap out before the rear-naked choke puts her to sleep.

The Official Result

Sarah D’Alelio def. Andrea Lee via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R3 4:21

Herica Tiburcio vs. Jinh Yu Frey

Round 1

The southpaw Frey checks the first leg kick from Tiburcio and sends back a long jab at the shorter woman. Tiburcio is on the move early, walking forward on Frey but having some difficulty navigating the distance. About two minutes in, after eating more than a few jabs, Tiburcio sends a right-handed rocket down the middle which gets Frey’s attention. Tiburcio covers up to block a flurry of punches and leaves herself open for a body kick on the end of the combination. Leg kicks continue to land for the ex-Invicta titleholder, while Frey is still doing well off her back foot, giving Tiburcio a hard time from range. Frey connects with two hard left hooks in the closing seconds of the opening round. 10-9 Frey.

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Frey upset a former champ in Tiburcio.
Tiburcio continues her constant forward pressure and keeps putting kicks on the already bruised inside of Frey’s right leg. Frey is still finding a home on the Brazilian’s face for some snappy hooks, but Tiburcio seems unfazed and in fact only swings more punches as she’s being hit. There’s more pressure, more leg-kicking from Tiburcio through the middle of the round. Frey misses with a left over the top and leaves her head hanging for Tiburcio to deliver a right hand. Tiburcio is chopping away at both sides of Frey’s lead leg, which is growing redder by the minute. Frey’s combination comes up short as they hit the one-minute mark, and Tiburcio counters around the outside with a right hook. Good work from Tiburcio down the stretch as she dodges Frey’s punches and lands more than a few clean counters. Moments before the bell, after taking a few shots from Tiburcio, Frey uncorks a beauty of a left straight that puts Tiburcio on her posterior. Tiburcio is saved by the bell but wobbles back to her corner on unsteady legs. 10-9 Frey.

Round 3

Once again, it’s all pressure from Tiburcio, who seems to have regained her wits following the knockdown scare to end round two. Frey continues to work well off her back foot, though she’s still sustaining damage to her front leg. Tiburcio takes another left hand down the center but keeps her footing this time. Frey counters the next leg kick with a whipping left that turns Tiburcio’s head. The flyweights are down to the final minute now, still fighting the same fight they have been for the better part of 15 minutes. There’s no increased aggression from either woman, though neither can feel truly comfortable with the scorecards. Tiburcio is still walking forward when the final bell sounds, whereupon she celebrates what she believes to be a victory by leaping atop the cage. 10-9 Frey (30-27 Frey).

The Official Result

Jinh Yu Frey def. Herica Tiburcio via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) R3 5:00

Roxanne Modafferi vs. DeAnna Bennett

Round 1

Modafferi takes a kick on the leg as she walks forward to stick a jab in Bennett’s face. Bennett gets backed up to the fence but does well to push-kick and jab as Modafferi steps inside, trying to close the distance. An ill-timed kick sees Bennett knocked off balance and to the ground, but she springs back to her feet and muslces Modafferi against the fence with a bodylock. Modafferi spins to take the outside position and there works to reap Bennett’s outside leg for a trip. Bennett fights her off and disengages, and the flyweights reset with three minutes left in the opening round. Bennett catches a kick and uses the leg to put Modafferi back on the fence, where she switches to a double-leg and slams “The Happy Warrior” to the mat. Bennett gets off a few punches to the body but is careful within Modafferi’s shifting guard. Bennett stands to avoid a brief armbar attempt, then kneels back in Modafferi’s guard. Modafferi stays busy off her back with short punches, then tries to creep her legs up into rubber guard. Bennett avoids the position but still can’t pass Modafferi’s guard and has to dodge a triangle choke in the closing seconds. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Modafferi edged Bennett on two scorecards.
Modafferi gives Bennett no room to breathe at the start of the round, quickly moving across the cage to stick jabs in her face. Bennett circles around the edge of the cage, her back very near to the fence, and catches her incoming opponent with the occasional leg kick or jab. Modafferi is the busier of the fighters, however, and her constant pressure is keeping the fight where she wants it. Bennett comes twirling out to the center of the cage with a spinning strike which never materializes, and soon Modafferi has her back on the outside. Modafferi sticks a jab just as Bennett throws a kick, knocking Bennett to the canvas. The “Assassin” drives on Modafferi’s legs and manages to get out of trouble, powering back to her feet with just over two minutes on the clock. Modafferi just keeps coming, never more than two feet away from Bennett as they fight near the fence. Bennett is breathing heavier, her punches looking a bit more labored as the last 60 seconds tick down. Modafferi continues to score with leg kicks, forcing Bennett to begin checking the strikes near the end of the round. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 3

The flyweights take up their familiar positions to begin the final round, with Bennett moving in angles around the edge of the cage and Modafferi working from the center. Modafferi is beating up Bennett’s legs with kicks as well as scoring with the occasional jab. When Bennett does try to step out to the middle, Modafferi moves her right back and resumes cutting off the angles. Both women connect with solid right hands over the top during one exchange, but it’s Modafferi who keeps pressing and continues scoring with follow-up punches. Bennett’s nose is busted now, blood trickling down into her open mouth. She flashes some front kicks to try and keep Modafferi out of range, then pops the Las Vegas resident with a stiff jab. Modafferi’s offense has finally tapered off here in the final 90 seconds, though she continues to keep the pressure on Bennett. A few more punches on the nose leave Bennett’s grill covered in blood, and now she comes in looking for a late shot. Modafferi backs up to the fence and stuffs the takedown, and that’s where time runs out.

The Official Result

Roxanne Modafferi def. DeAnna Bennett via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) R3 5:00

Irene Aldana vs. Jessamyn Duke

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Duke lost her fourth straight.
Duke presses forward on Aldana and walks into a straight right hand down the middle from the Mexican boxer. Aldana bounces on her toes and kicks at the lead leg of her lanky opponent, then catches a kick and socks Duke with a short right hook. Duke’s face is beet red from Aldana’s right hand just 90 seconds into the opening round, but she keeps walking forward. Aldana comes over the top with another hard right, circles back to the edge of the cage and waits for Duke to step inside to deliver a nice one-two. Two more cracking right hands send Duke stumbling backward until she hits the wall. Aldana is relentless and unloads with more punches, now a body kick. A left hand rips into Duke’s flank, getting her to lean forward, and Aldana finishes the fight with one final right hand down the middle. Duke drops to her knees and referee Mark Smith steps in to call a halt to the bout.

The Official Result

Irene Aldana def. Jessamyn Duke via TKO (Punches) R1 3:08

Stephanie Eggink vs. Angela Hill

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Hill busted up Eggink.
Hill catches a kick from Eggink and looks for an early trip, but Eggink pulls back the leg and resumes hopping around the cage. Hill takes a kick across the body and tries to whip a right hand counter but comes up short. Eggink connects with another kick to the gut, only this time Hill catches her with the counter right upstairs. Hill switches between stances as the fighters continue to settle in on their feet. Eggink comes into the pocket, gets clipped by a Hill hook and then has to escape when “Overkill” tries to overhook her arms. The strawweights are at the midway point of round one with the frame still very much up for grabs. Hill is all pressure but has walked into several of Eggink’s jabs and front kicks now. She catches a kick and tries once again to trip Eggink to the ground, but Eggink is looking like the stronger fighter at this stage and simply stands her ground. 10-9 Hill.

Round 2

Hill continues to catch hold of Eggink’s kicks but still hasn’t managed to truly capitalize with offense behind them. A hard right kick from Hill catches Eggink on the chest, causing her to turn away in pain. The fight is still on, though, so Eggink has to turn around and shake it off as Hill continues to come forward. Hill is in constant motion, always walking forward on the attack. Eventually, she catches up to Eggink near the fence and comes over the top with a hard right hand. Eggink drops to her seat at the base of the fence, and it looks like the punch may have shattered her nose. Referee Kim Winslow runs over but does not wave off the bout, so Hill drops a few more punches on her cowering opponent, and now the fight is stopped.

The Official Result

Angela Hill def. Stephanie Eggink via TKO (Punches) R2 2:36

Invicta 125-Pound Title Fight:
Vanessa Porto vs. Jennifer Maia

Round 1

Porto takes the center of the cage and stalks forward on Maia, testing the range with pawing punches. Referee Mark Smith warns Porto to keep her hands closed while striking. Seconds later, a straight right hand blows up Maia’s chin and sends her crashing to the canvas. Porto pounces on her downed opponent but doesn’t really pour on the punches, instead looking to secure position on the ground. Maia shakes the cobwebs, creates some space from Porto and rises off her knees. The flyweights are back to striking with 3:00 on the clock, Maia now looking fully recovered from the knockdown scare as she bounces around the outside. Porto remains measured, slowly working her way out from the center, not throwing many strikes here in the early going. Maia snaps back Porto’s head with a straight right down the center, then deflects a high kick before both women land simultaneous jabs. There’s lots of swinging and missing in the final minute as the fighters continue to find their range, and Porto’s knockdown punch remains the hardest shot of the fight so far. 10-9 Porto.

Round 2

Porto maintains her position in the center of the cage and continues to connect with good right hands in close quarters through the first minute of the round. When the opportunity presents itself, Porto goes low and then slams Maia to the canvas, nearly landing in full mount. Instead, Porto dives off to try an armbar, but Maia stacks her up and frees the limb. Porto stays on top of Maia, then stands over her and comes crashing back to the ground with a punch. Maia wraps up Porto in full guard with two minutes remaining in the round. Now it’s Maia who may be thinking about an armbar from the bottom, but Porto slams her way free and stands again. Porto leans in to grab Maia’s leg and simultaneously places a hand on the ground, making illegal the upkick which Maia lands a split-second later. Referee Mark Smith calls time and allows the doctor to check on Porto, who is soon cleared to return to the fight. Porto once again slams Maia to the mat, this time passing to full mount and trying for an armbar just before the round ends. 10-9 Porto.

Round 3

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Maia bested Porto unanimously.
Once again, Porto takes her place in the middle of the cage, but this time Maia looks to attack from the outside. Maia steps into the center to deliver a hard right hand over the top, then tries to trap Porto against the wall. Porto denies the clinch and steps out to deck Maia with a nice left hook, and now it’s Porto trying for the clinch on the fence. Maia reverses to the outside position and holds Porto in place with an underhook until they separate at the three-minute mark. Maia is throwing more combinations but not seeing any increase in accuracy as punches bounce off Porto’s arms and shoulders. Suddenly, Porto gets caught with a right hand on the nose and goes shooting for a takedown. Maia stuffs her to the ground and tries for a crucifix as Porto’s nose leaks blood all over the canvas. Maia traps Porto’s right arm between her legs and drops backward, but that’s where she stalls out. Porto gets to her knees with ease, yanks the arm loose and drives forward to once again slam Maia to the ground. Maia grabs a one-armed guillotine as she’s taken down, but the choke isn’t very tight and Porto is able to ride out the final 20 seconds on top. 10-9 Maia.

Round 4

Maia rushes to clinch as the championship rounds begin, but she’s unable to do much with the position once she has Porto against the wall. The flyweights separate and go back to throwing strikes in the center of the cage, Maia looking the fresher of the two as she fires off combinations to Porto’s single punches. Porto gets turned around and has to dash away as Maia charges her. The situation turns advantageous for Porto when she changes levels and uses Maia’s momentum to drive her to the ground. Seconds after they hit the mat, Maia throws up an armbar which has Porto in deep trouble. Her left arm trapped, Porto goes belly down on top and steps over Maia’s head to relieve pressure from the hold. Porto’s face is a bloody mess as she continues to defend the arm. After nearly a minute in the position and with no end in sight, referee Smith orders the fighters back to their feet. Porto is checked by the doctor and cleared to continue. When action resumes, Maia goes hard on the attack, closing out the round with rough punches and knees up against the fence, though Porto gets the last word with a buzzer-beater takedown. 10-9 Maia.

Round 5

The flyweights clinch up early in the final stanza, with Maia taking the outside position, trapping Porto against the cage. Porto tries to use overhooks to slow Maia’s punching, with moderate success. As the clinch is broken, Porto directs referee Smith’s attention to a loose piece of tape on her glove, which is fixed before action resumes. Maia stuffs another shot and nearly gets Porto back in the crucifix, but Porto flips over and the 125ers scramble back to their feet at the midway point of the round. Porto catches a high front kick and drives Maia back to the floor; Maia grabs another one-handed guillotine on the way down, but Porto seems unconcerned. Down to the final 90 seconds, Maia is still holding on to the headlock while Porto is just kneeling on top in guard. Maia finally releases the hold with 30 seconds remaining, and the final half minute ticks down with the tired fighters on the ground. 10-9 Maia (48-47 Maia).

The Official Result

Jennifer Maia def. Vanessa Porto via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) R5 5:00

Invicta 105-Pound Title Fight:
Ayaka Hamasaki vs. Amber Brown

Round 1

Hamasaki snaps off a pair of right hands to the face of Brown in the opening 30 seconds, then quickly changes levels and plows the American to the ground. Hamasaki tries to pass to side control but Brown entangles her in half guard, slowing the atomweight champion’s progression. Now it’s full guard for Brown, who’s thinking about a triangle or armbar as Hamasaki postures up to throw punches. Hamasaki leaves her arm dangling and gets caught in a triangle which Brown gradually tightens, eventually bringing the Japanese fighter down to her knees. Hamasaki is defending well, still kneeling and posturing up as Brown drives elbows into the side of her head. Slowly, Hamasaki is slipping free of the triangle, and with 75 seconds remaining in round one, her head finally pops loose. Straight to side control goes Hamasaki now, pinning down Brown’s left arm with her leg and leaning across to wrench a kimura on the right arm. Brown sweeps to top position with 30 seconds left but Hamasaki is still cranking the armlock from the bottom. Brown never frees the arm but nonetheless advances to full mount just before the round ends. 10-9 Hamasaki.

Round 2

Brown lands a few leg kicks on the flat-footed Hamasaki, who switches stances before stepping inside to deliver a corkscrew right hand. Brown looks to clinch, pulls down Hamasaki’s head in the collar tie but can’t find the mark with her knee. The next pair of knees lands to Hamasaki’s body as the champ is backed up to the fence; from there, Brown is able to drag Hamasaki to the ground with a waistlock. Hamasaki lands on her knees with Brown in riding position behind her, landing short left hands to the body and head. Hamasaki rolls to her back, snatching up Brown’s right arm for another kimura attempt in the process. Hamasaki uses the armlock to sweep to top position, where she tries to force the tap but eventually has to release. It’s Hamasaki on top with 90 seconds on the clock, standing up tall to try and break Brown’s closed guard. Brown continues to kick up her legs, threatening to snare Hamasaki in another triangle or armbar. Brown catches Hamasaki’s head in a triangle with 30 seconds left in the round and pulls down to try and force the tap, but Hamasaki is saved by the bell. 10-9 Brown.

Round 3

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Ayaka took out Brown in the third.
Hamasaki gets backed up against the fence, where Brown leans in and grabs for a high double-leg takedown. Hamasaki defends at first but is ultimately taken down about one minute into the period. Once again, Hamasaki uses a kimura to sweep Brown underneath, and now the champion is back on top with 3:00 remaining. When Brown refuses to tap to the kimura, Hamasaki switches to an armbar and leans back to fully extend Brown’s right arm. Brown rolls the right way and looks to be close to escaping at one point, but Hamasaki has a grip on the wrist and will not let go. Hamasaki puts her back on the mat, turns Brown’s thumb toward the ground and leans back to bend the limb to an extremely uncomfortable angle. Brown hesitates at first but is soon forced to tap, and Ayaka Hamasaki has retained her Invicta FC atomweight title with a third-round submission.

The Official Result

Ayaka Hamasaki def. Amber Brown via Submission (Armbar) R3 2:52
