By the Numbers: TUF Nations Finale

After months of feuding via social media, Tim Kennedy had the last laugh.

The former Army Ranger outwrestled, outstruck and generally outworked Michael Bisping to capture a unanimous verdict in “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” finale headliner at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec, Canada, on Wednesday night. After the decision was announced, the two rivals squashed their beef in the center of the Octagon.

Elsewhere, Patrick Cote made sure Team Canada captured all the reality show honors by besting Aussie coach Kyle Noke in the evening’s co-main event. Meanwhile, Canadians Elias Theodorou (middleweight) and Chad Laprise (welterweight) became the latest “TUF” cast members to earn six-figure contracts with the Las Vegas-based promotion. Here is a by-the-numbers look at the “TUF Nations” finale, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

5: Takedowns landed, in 11 attempts, by Kennedy against Bisping, the most anyone has landed against “The Count” in a UFC middleweight bout. Both Rashad Evans and Matt Hamill were able to land six takedowns against Bisping in light heavyweight contests. Kennedy landed two takedowns in round one, one in round three and two in the final stanza against his British foe.

11: Guard passes for Kennedy. The previous best against Bisping came when Denis Kang passed his guard six times at UFC 105.

987: Significant strikes landed by Bisping in his UFC career after Wednesday night’s loss, moving him past Sam Stout and into second place in promotion history behind only Georges St. Pierre (1,254). Bisping landed 40 significant strikes against Kennedy.

.290: Significant striking accuracy for Bisping on Wednesday. The “TUF 3” winner landed 40 of 137 significant strikes attempted, well off his career rate of 40 percent. By comparison, Tim Kennedy landed 51 of 106 significant strikes, a 48 percent clip.

3: Takedowns landed, in nine attempts, by Cote in his unanimous decision win over fellow “TUF Nations” coach Noke. “The Predator” landed one takedown in each round, which probably helped him on the scorecards in his first UFC welterweight triumph.

127: Total strikes landed by Cote. By comparison, Noke landed 67 total strikes. However, Noke did hold a 50-to-33 advantage in significant strikes landed.

38: Significant strikes by which Elias Theodorou outlanded Sheldon Westcott in the second round of the “TUF Nations” middleweight finale. Theodorou outlanded his foe 41 to 3 in significant strikes and 58 to 3 in total strikes en route to earning a stoppage 4:41 into the frame.

$50,000: Bonus money earned by Canadian Chad Laprise during his time on “TUF Nations.” Laprise earned $25,000 for “Fight of the Season” against Chris Indich and $25,000 for “KO of the Season” against Kajan Johnson. Laprise became the first Canadian “TUF” winner with his win over Aubin Olivier-Mercier.

8: Victories for Dustin Poirier in the UFC, the most of any featherweight in promotion history. The American Top Team product stopped Akira Corassani via TKO 42 seconds into the second round. Poirier has only lost to Chan Sung Jung and Cub Swanson in UFC competition.

5: Featherweight finishes for Poirier, moving him ahead of Chad Mendes and Cub Swanson for most in UFC competition at 145 pounds.

51: Total significant strikes by which Corassani has been outlanded (169-118) in four UFC bouts. The “TUF 14” alum was outlanded 45 to 24 in his loss to Poirier. Despite winning his first three Octagon outings, the Swede did not outland any of his opposition in those bouts.

30: Professional bouts without a knockout or technical knockout defeat for Stout. In his 31st fight, “Hands of Stone” suffered the first knockout of his career, falling to a K.J. Noons overhand right 30 seconds into the opening round of their welterweight matchup.

5: Significant strikes landed by Stout in defeat, only the second time in his 18-fight tenure with the promotion that he has landed single-digit significant strikes in a fight. The first time occurred when he landed 0 significant strikes in a first-round rear-naked choke loss to Kenny Florian at “The Ultimate Fighter 3” finale.

1,334: Days since Noons’ last knockout triumph, which occurred against Jorge Gurgel at Strikeforce “Houston” on Aug. 21, 2010. Prior to his finish of Stout, Noons was 2-5 in his last seven appearances, all of which went to the judges.

281: Combined significant strikes landed by Sarah Kaufman (202) and Leslie Smith (79) in their women’s bantamweight showdown. Kaufman, who won via unanimous decision, outlanded her opponent 81 to 43 in round one, 79 to 32 in round two and 72 to 25 in round three.

55: Total strikes by which George Roop outlanded Dustin Kimura en route to taking a unanimous verdict in their bantamweight bout. Roop was able to outstrike his opponent in every round, but he held especially significant advantages in round one (24 to 3) and round three (36 to 7).

515: Days since Mark Bocek’s last Octagon appearance, a unanimous decision defeat to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 154. Bocek returned to action with a hard-fought split-decision triumph over Mike de la Torre at the “TUF Nations” finale.

2: Consecutive appearances on “The Ultimate Fighter” for Nordine Taleb, who took a unanimous decision against Vik Grujic on Wednesday. The Tristar Gym product, who lost a quarterfinal bout on “TUF Nations,” will also be part of the “TUF 19” cast.

1: Decision win among 11 professional victories for Mitch Gagnon, who went the distance for the first time in his career in outpointing Tim Gorman in the evening’s opening bout. The Canadian’s first 10 triumphs all came via submission.
